Lovely dinner last night 450m above Queenstown. All you can eat buffet – just me and Piggy Fred – Rennies for the last course!! Coming down in the Gondola at about 10.00pm was something else, so many stars and the lights over Queenstown.

The sun came out for us again this morning, but I was so sad. I have fallen in love with Queenstown and don’t want to leave. We have 270km to go today to Lake Tekapo. En route we popped in to have a look at the adreneline junkies at the bungee jumping centre. They're all mad. Bit of an anticlimax really - nobody screamed or landed in the water!

Made good time so decided to make a detour and have a look at Mount Cook on our way. It was bathed in brilliant sunshine and looked splendid.

After lunch at Mount Cook we drove back along Lake Pukaki – such a brilliant turquoise to be unbelievable. Apparently the colour is caused by the glaciers grinding the rocks and producing glacier flour which turns the water that colour in sunshine.

Because of our detour, we arrived in Lake Tekapo late afternoon. Stayed at The Godley Resort and Spa - much less grand than it sounds but the spa was good!
